HARD · CASE FILE

The capped insurance fee

Hard · WILLOW COURIER ACCOUNTS

A clerk applied a percentage to the full parcel value, overlooking both an exemption and the order of the fee cap. The archive retained the competing reconstructions in separate packets. Rebuild their custody events, identify the proposal supported by the analytical records, then name that packet’s recorded handler. The packet events form a separate ordered register; do not substitute a calculated clock time for a review-slot label.

Your assignment

Who handled the packet containing the supported reconstruction?

Case records

Read each record on its own terms. A claim made by a person is different from a fact established by an independent record.

VERIFIED RECORD B

Marginal rates

On insured value: first 100 credits cost 2%; next 200 cost 3%; any value beyond 300 costs 5%. These are marginal bands, not one rate for the entire value.

Compute each band separately, using only its own portion.

VERIFIED RECORD C

Fee order

Add a fixed 3-credit processing charge to the band total. Then cap the entire final charge at 20 credits. No tax or rounding is needed.

Apply the cap after the processing charge.

CONTEXT NOTE

Parcel ribbon

The parcel has a red ribbon, with no pricing significance.

This describes the setting; it does not establish the requested result.

VERIFIED RECORD A

Declared value

The parcel’s declared value is 540 credits. Of that, 40 credits are exempt packaging and must be removed before applying insurance rates.

The insured value is 500, not 540.

RECONSTRUCTION RECORD

Packet proposal index

This is the same investigation’s packet custody record. There are 6 ordered events, labelled Review 1, Review 2, Review 3, Review 4, Review 5, Review 6. Each listed person, location and item occurs exactly once. These slots describe record order, not times from the analytical problem. Each packet contains the proposed reconstruction shown in the index. Solve the original three analytical records to identify the supported proposal, then trace its packet to its handler. Control packets have no proposal and cannot be the target.

  • The event handled by Pera Dean occupies slot 4 (Review 4).
  • The event involving “Packet Birch” and the event involving “Packet Dune” are exactly 2 positions apart, with 1 intervening event; this alone gives no direction.
  • The event handled by Tavi Cole occurs earlier than the event handled by Pera Dean, without claiming they are consecutive.
  • The event involving “Packet Elm” occurs earlier than the event handled by Oren Bell, without claiming they are consecutive.
  • The event at Intake counter occurs immediately before the event handled by Lena Ford (consecutive rows, with no event between them).

Use each column’s choices exactly once. Verified relationships govern the board; proposed answers and later recollections do not override them.

RECONSTRUCTION RECORD

Custody sequence

The relationships below were verified independently. “A immediately before B” means A is in the row directly above B, with no row between them. Keep relationships from all worksheet sources together.

  • The event at Review bench occupies slot 6 (Review 6).
  • The event involving “Packet Dune” occurs earlier than the event at Review bench, without claiming they are consecutive.
  • The event handled by Oren Lake and the event at Reading desk are exactly 4 positions apart, with 3 intervening events; this alone gives no direction.
  • The event handled by Tavi Cole and the event involving “Packet Elm” are exactly 3 positions apart, with 2 intervening events; this alone gives no direction.

Use each column’s choices exactly once. Verified relationships govern the board; proposed answers and later recollections do not override them.

RECONSTRUCTION RECORD

Cross-check and accounts

The relationships below were verified independently. “A immediately before B” means A is in the row directly above B, with no row between them. Keep relationships from all worksheet sources together. The following later recollections are claims to test, NOT verified facts. Exactly one disagrees with the reconstructed board; this alone is not proof of deliberate deception.

  • The event at Review bench and the event at Audit desk are exactly 2 positions apart, with 1 intervening event; this alone gives no direction.
  • The event involving “Packet Amber” occurs immediately before the event involving “Packet Birch” (consecutive rows, with no event between them).
  • The event handled by Pera Dean and the event involving “Packet Cedar” are exactly 3 positions apart, with 2 intervening events; this alone gives no direction.
  • The event handled by Oren Lake occurs earlier than the event at Dispatch shelf, without claiming they are consecutive.

Use each column’s choices exactly once. Verified relationships govern the board; proposed answers and later recollections do not override them.

Questions to resolve

What is the authorised final insurance fee?

Match every recorded item to its event location or reviewer.

Who handled the first recorded event?

Use the interactive case desk to select your finding and cite the records that support it. The answer is checked there, and your progress stays in your browser.

Build your finding

Compare the records with each account. Work out what the evidence establishes, then separate that finding from anything it does not prove.
